Oralis was engineered from the ground up without invasive user accounts, trackers, or behavioral profiling.
You do not need to create an account, provide an email address, or link a social profile to browse languages, listen to recordings, or contribute cultural memories.
When you submit a recording or story, our server generates a secure UUID delete token. This token is shown to you once upon sealing the record and is stored alongside the encrypted database item.
Because we do not store your identity, your delete token is your key to permanently remove your contribution and its audio from both DynamoDB and Amazon S3 at any time.
Recordings and metadata are stored securely:
localStorage on this device so you can manage them without memorizing keys.To preserve cultural authenticity and prevent spam or inappropriate content, new submissions are safely stored and reviewed by archive curators before becoming publicly discoverable in the atlas. Administrative moderation decisions are permanently audited for institutional accountability.
To prevent automated abuse and denial-of-service, our API enforces an in-memory sliding window rate limit based on client IP addresses. These counters expire after 60 seconds and are never tied to individual contributions or stored in persistent logs.
